So after a year long trauma of medical events including a pulmonary embolism and surgery to remove my first, left rib. I have still not completely healed. In an attempt to get better I contacted an acupuncturist and made my first appointment.
I have been to a cardiologist, a pulmonologist, a primary care physician, had CT scans, echocardiograms, bone scans, and more xrays than I can possibly count. None of them have helped me so far, or been able to pin-point any problems beyond the original diagnosis.
So for $80 a visit I have decided to try acupuncture. A couple of people have told me it really helped resolve their chronic pain. I visited the acupuncturist for a consultation and she believes she may be able to help. She said it often takes at least 10 to 12 visits before the patient feels better. I’m really, really, really hoping to be healed. I’m beginning to think I’m going to have to live with chronic pain for the rest of my life. And at 28 I really, really, really hate the thought of that. I think the hope of a pain free life is worth $800 – $1000. Since modern medicine has failed me… I’m crossing my fingers.
I just wanted to post here about my mom. She found out earlier this year that she had a slipped disc in her lower back. Her doctor recommended surgery but said it wasn't guaranteed to work. Everyone she talked to who had similar problems or knew someone with similar problems said, "Oh, you'll live with that pain for the rest of your life."
Well, she tried visiting a chiropractor instead of having surgery. She is already back in the gym! She had to go twice a week for a few months, but over the summer, she was able to cut back to once every month! She says she almost feels like her old self again!
I don't think alternative medicine works for everyone, but I hate hearing people who discount it as a non-solution when it does work for some people! š
