I asked a few friends to complete this sentence for me recently. They listed all sorts of people like Bill Gates or Oprah Winfrey. They mentioned movie stars and pop stars and rich real estate moguls like Donald Trump. But when I complete the sentence myself the first person to pop into my mind is Scrooge McDuck.
You remember this character from the Ducktales cartoon right? He was the zillionaire duck who converted all of his money to gold coins, used them to fill an oversized swimming pool, and spent his days swimming among his riches.
I don’t know why but whenever I think of someone with a lot of money this picture comes to mind. Not Bill Gates or Oprah Winfrey but good ‘ole Scrooge McDuck. Of course the cartoon focused on Scrooge McDuck’s frugal side. He was a mean, old miser who was always trying to get money from Donald Duck or his three little nephews. But when I think back I don’t remember these scenes, just the image of Scrooge McDuck swimming through that pool of gold coins.
I’m not sure what that says about me, and whether it’s a good thing or not. After my friends tell me who they think of I tell them the first millionaire that comes to mind for me is Scrooge McDuck. At first they all laugh but then they admit that it would be pretty cool to go swimming in a pool of gold coins.
